About this programme
After heavy rain the day before, Jeelon Estate in Monaragala faced a real threat of landslides.
Of the 30 houses built on the estate with Indian aid, 16 families are at serious risk. Two houses have already been completely destroyed, and two more have cracked and are sinking. With this in mind, and with the contribution and support of the relevant institutions, we held a disaster-preparedness training and awareness programme on 13 October 2026 for the safety of these estate families.
It was a joint effort with the Director and staff of the Monaragala District Disaster Management Unit, the Public Health Inspector, the Grama Niladhari and the Jeelon Estate management. That it reached its goal so successfully was a great blessing for the families living there, and for all of us.
